In Greek mythology the Pleiades are seven sisters; Alcyone, Celenus, Electra, Maia, Merope, Sterope and Taigete. Six of them are visible and one is invisible. They were born on Mount Cillene in Arcadia, from Atlas and Pleione. Among the different hypotheses on the origin of the Pleiades lies in the verb “to navigate,” as they stars able to direct sailors.There are in fact several narrations about the life and death of the Pleiades, but what is most striking is that in each story at their death they become stars. These are the same stars whose beauty sailors contemplate in the nights of calm sea, while admiring the starry sky.
