Zeus considered humanity to be corrupted and impoverished, thus decided to invoke a flood that would destroy it. Deucalion was warned by his father Pometeo who suggested to build an ark that could save him and Pyrrha, his wife. Deucalion and Pyrrha ploughed the waters trying not to sink for nine days and nine nights; once the flood ended they landed on Mount Parnasus. Zeus was softened by that enterprise and asked Hermes to realize any desire they would express. Without delay Deucalion and Pyrrha asked to give life to a new humanity. Zeus invited the couple to set out and collect stones to throw behind them and, in total wonder, new men and new women came to life; Protogenia was their first daughter, follwed by Hellenum and Amphition.
