Artemis, goddess of the hunt, had fallen in love with a tall and robust hunter named Orion. It was not her habit to let herself be carried away by the impetus of love, but that meeting had captured her to such an extent that she did not think of anything else. However, she felt great indignation and disappointment when she discovered that Orion had fallen in love with her virgin companions, the Pleiades - daughters of Atlas and Pleio - to the point of chasing them night and day and forcing them to hide. At that point, Artemis poured her anger on him by sending a scorpion that attacked him; Orion, the Pleiades and the scorpion were thus transformed into a constellation.
